Stanley Donen (Columbia, Carolina del Sud, 13 d’abril de 1924-23 de febrer de 2019) va ser un director de cinema, coreògraf i ballarí estatunidenc, un dels mestres de la comèdia musical. Ha mort aquest dissabte als 94 anys. La seva pel·lícula més coneguda és Cantant sota la pluja, codirigida amb Gene Kelly. També són d’ell Set núvies per a set germans i Xarada. El 1997 va rebre un Oscar honorífic en reconeixement a tota la seva carrera. L’encarregat de fer-ne el lliurament va ser Martin Scorsese. És una delícia veure com Stanley Donen va recollir el guardó, cantant i ballant galta contra galta amb l’estatueta.

Després dona un paper a Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Sophia Loren, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Gregory Peck, Elizabeth Taylor, Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman o Frank Sinatra. Quan comenci el rodatge, has d’aparèixer i deixar-los fer. Però has d’aparèixer, has d’aparèixer. Si no, no podràs endur-te’n el mèrit ni guanyar un premi com aquest. Moltes gràcies.
