L’artista polifacètic Daniel Johnston va néixer a Califòrnia el 22 de gener de 1961 i ha mort el 10 de septiembre de 2019 als 58 anys d’un atac de cor. Conegut per ser un dels artistes més influents dels anys vuitanta als Estats Units, va ser reivindicat per figures com Kurt Cobain, Tom Waits i David Bowie. Va protagonitzar el documental The Devil and Daniel Johnston, en què mostra la seva trajectòria fent èmfasi al seu diagnòstic d’esquizofrènia i trastorn bipolar.
